1. Which search engine are you going to use first? (I don’t care- you choose.) yahoo

2. What are you going to use as your search term or terms? Abraham Lincoln

3. How many “hits” did you get with that search? 23,200,000

4. Try a second search with different terms. What did you type in for your second search? Abraham Lincoln family

5. How many “hits” did you get with this search? 547,000

6. Did your new search terms get more or fewer hits than your first search? fewer

7. Why do you think that happened? Because we put in different words in the search.

8. What would you type in if you wanted to find out about your person’s childhood? Abraham Lincoln’s childhood

9. Try it- what happened? It brought up 474,000 results

10. Why do you think that happened? Because they were different words.

11. Now go to another search engine. Which search engine are you using? Google

12. What are you going to use as your search term or terms? Abraham Lincoln’ life

13. How many “hits” did you get with that search? 32,700

14. Try a second search with different terms. What did you type in for your second search? Abraham Lincoln’ school

15. How many “hits” did you get with this search? 1,280,000

16. Did your new search terms get more or fewer hits than your first search? more

17. Why do you think that happened? Because it was different.

18. What would you type in if you wanted to find out about your person’s childhood? Abraham Lincoln

19. Try it- what happened? 159,000

20. Why do you think that happened? We added more info.

21. Did you get the same results with both engines? Why do you think that happened? No because in is different

22. Which search terms do you think will provide you the best results? (Remember, “best” doesn’t mean the most!) yahoo

23. Now, use your searches from above to find 3-5 sites about your person, and post them on your blog.
